Zoological Society of Japan in Yamagata

This is Biology Club!

We participated in the high school student poster presentation at the 94th Yamagata Convention of the Zoological Society of Japan, which was held at Yamagata University on September 8th and 9th. On the day of the event, 34 schools from all over the country gathered in the exchange lounge of the basic research building on a very hot day – a complete change from the cloudy weather the day before – and held face-to-face poster presentations in front of academic conference personnel. In total there were 63 presentations. The biology club presented three papers (3rd year, 2nd year, and 1st year research). In particular, the third-year presentation was about animal-related research, and was a huge success, with a large crowd of interested academic members and university officials. (Unfortunately, the researcher was unable to attend due and an OG presented on her behalf). In the afternoon, the awards ceremony was held, where our students were presented with the “Poster Award.” The Department of Biology focuses on research using animals, so presenting at this zoological conference is a must. We will use the valuable opinions we received on the day in future considerations.

Students also had an opportunity to visit the Castle of Mist – Yamagata Castle – and to visit a museum of medicine situated in the most beautiful – and slightly haunted feeling – old hospital.
